LINCOLN LORENZ
He advises a correspondent to read his new book on John Paul Jones first, and then he will answer any remaining questions.
Autograph Letter signed twice: "Lincoln Lorenz", with initialed postscript "L.L", 3 pages (integral leaf), 5¼x6½. Hyattsville, Maryland, 1943 March 31. To Roy G. Fitzgerald, Dayton Historical Association, Dayton, Ohio. In full: "As you write me that you are securing a copy of my biography of John Paul Jones, which has been published about a week ago, I think that you will find in the book itself a more satisfactory answer to your question concerning Jones' lady friend to whom you refer than I can give you in this letter. If, after you have your copy, you have any other questions to ask such as I can answer, I shall be glad to give you whatever information I have. I am interested in the autograph letter of Jones which you mention. If you find no reference to it or to its contents in my biography, I should be glad to learn further concerning the material in it. Sincerely yours" [signature] P. S. I hope that you enjoy my book. I am sorry for the delay in this letter. American historianLincoln Lorenz (1914-1981) was particularly noted for his 2-volume biography of US naval hero John Paul Jones: Fighter for Freedom and Glory (1943). Surface creases, esp. nears corners. Corners lightly worn. Front page heavily soiled. Small stain on back page. Otherwise, fine condition.
