LINDA DARNELL
Her ink signature on card with a printed request for her autograph
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Sincerely/Linda Darnell", 4¼x¾, Card bears printed request that she autograph and return it. Linda Darnell (1923-1965, born Monetta Eloyse Darnell in Dallas, Texas) got her start playing good girls, but made her name as a flirtatious Russian wife in 1944's Summer Storm and landed in the plum leading role in 1947's Forever Amber. But her best performances were probably as Paul Douglas' wife from quite literally the wrong side of the tracks in A Letter to Three Wives (1949) and as Richard Widmark's racist girlfriend (who suffers a change of heart) in No Way Out (1950). Darnell died from severe burns suffered in a house fire. Her death was, unfortunately, rich in irony. Darnell had a lifelong fear of dying in flames (which she spoke of after appearing in a "burned at the stake" sequence in the 1946 film Anna and the King of Siam), and she suffered her burns after running into a burning area of the house to save her friend's child... without knowing that the girl had already escaped the fire. Edges lightly frayed. Edges lightly toned. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
