margin. Actress, singer, producer and director Linda Lavin (1937-2024) is best known for
her role as waitress Alice Hyatt on the TV sitcom, Alice (1976-1985), for which she
won two Golden Globes (1978, 1979) and was nominated for another Golden Globe
(1980) and an Emmy Award. Lavin also sang the sitcom's theme song, "There's a New Girl in
Town". Originally best known for her television work, which also included a stint on Barney
Miller (1975-1976), guest appearances on a number of series and a long list of TV movies, the
actress has had a successful Broadway career as well. Lavin, who made her off-Broadway
debut in 1960, made her Broadway bow two years later in A Family Affair. She won a Tony
Award for Broadway Bound (1987) and was nominated for Tonys in 1970, 1998, 2001
and 2010 (the latter for Collected Stories). Lavin also appeared on the big screen, beginning
with 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan. She was inducted into the American Theatre
Hall of Fame in January 2011. George Sanders, a radio/TV interview host in Los Angeles
and later Portland, collected autographs from guests on his show. Ink lightly haloed. Right edge
