figured prominently among the contemporary country music performers with
potential crossover pop appeal who emerged in the 1980s. A teenage TV/radio
performer in his home town of Wheeling, West Virginia, he hosted two country
music shows on the Nashville Network, beginning in 1981. He had his first
national hit, "You're Gonna Make Her Mine" in 1988, and his only #1 hit, "Leap
of Faith", in 1991. Cartwright's music earned comparisons to Garth Brooks,
Travis Tritt and Alan Jackson, but his subsequent career did not take off as
theirs did. The versatile Cartwright, who plays ten instruments, can be heard on
several more recent ensemble albums, including tributes to Webb Pierce and to
the Moody Blues. Fine condition.
