LIONEL PAPE
Rare handwritten letter from the actor to author Dennis Wheatley, remarking
on his success with his board game "Invasion", saying that he has his own board
game ideas and was hoping Wheatley could help promote their success. Extremely
rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Lionel Pape", in blue ink, 4 pages (front
and verso), 5x8. December 28, 1939. In part: "Dear Mr. Wheatley,
Saving Tues I have been staying with my father, who happened to mention to me
the other day that you had recently published a successful game called
"Invasion" so with his approval I am taking the liberty of writing to ask
whether you would be interested to see three games I have composed + if you
considered them sufficiently good, perhaps to place them for me as your opinion
+ influence would doubtless make a lot of difference with the publishing
firms". Lionel Pape (1877-1944) was a British born actor,
appearing in film from 1915 to 1942. His first four films were all silent
films, though he transitioned to sound soon after. Most of his film roles later
in his career were uncredited, consisting of mostly minor roles and walk on
parts. Movies Pape appeared in include The New York Idea (1920),
The Prince and the Pauper (1937), and The Philadelphia Story
(1940). Normal mailing folds. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn
and creased. Lightly toned. Rust stains on top margin. Otherwise, fine
condition.
