LIONEL STANDER
B/w publicity photo of Stander from the chest up as Max from Hart to
Hart, signed "Good luck" in blue ink
Inscribed photograph signed "To Joseph/Good luck/Lionel Stander". B/w,
9½x7¾ overall, 9x7¼ image, one surface. Stander (1908-1994, born in the
Bronx, New York) was memorable in such films as Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
(1936), A Star is Born (1937) and in a series of Nero Wolfe
mysteries, but modern audiences probably know him best as Max, the Harts'
gravelly-voiced and resourceful butler, cook and chauffeur, in Hart to
Hart (1979-1984). After being blacklisted for refusing to cooperate with
the House Un-American Activities Committee during the early 1940s, he was cast
in an important role as The Guru Brahmin in The Loved One (1965). Stander
provided a riveting portrayal of an American mobster in Cul-de-Sac (1966)
and shined as Liza Minelli's agent in New York, New York (1977).
Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Light cracks on image (no visible head-on).
Otherwise in fine condition.
