Casa as Eva in Die Meistersinger, as Countess Waldner from
Arabella, as Countess Almavina in The Marriage of Figaro, and as
herself. Portraits upper left: 2½x3½. Upper middle: 2¾x3. Upper right: 3x3.
Middle: 1½x1¼ (one surface). Swiss soprano LISA DELLA CASA
(1919-2012) was known for her range, for her natural style, and - unlike
many divas - for her lack of egotism. Della Casa, who made her opera debut in
Madama Butterfly (1940), was famed for her performances of the works of
Mozart and of Richard Strauss. Artist DOROTHY AHRENS specialized in
drawing musicians, popular as well as operatic ones, in the 1940s and 1950s, and
asked the stars to autograph these. Fine condition.
