B/w, 8x10. Still from the 1956 film Lisbon. RAY MILLAND (1905-1986) was a British and then American actor spent the 1930s and early 1940s playing light romantic leads in such films asNext Time We Love (1936); Three Smart Girls (1936); Easy Living (1937), in which he was especially charming opposite Jean Arthur in an early Preston Sturges script; and as the major in Billy Wilder's The Major and the Minor (1942), opposite Ginger Rogers. Milland won an Oscar for his intense and realistic portrait of an alcoholic in The Lost Weekend (1945). In Dial M for Murder, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Milland convincingly portrays a wastrel husband who schemes to have his wife (Grace Kelly) murdered for the insurance. His later career was made up of mediocre parts in mostly bad films. Irish Actress MAUREEN O'HARA's (1920-2015) first film test was viewed by actor Charles Laughton, after which she was signed to a seven-year contract with Mayflower Pictures. Her first major role was in the 1939 Alfred Hitchcock film Jamaica Inn. Laughton, pleased with her performance cast her opposite him as Esmerelda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939). During the start of World War II O'Hara's contract was sold to RKO studios which cast her in low budget films until director John Ford cast her as the eldest daughter, Angharad Morgan, in How Green Was My Valley(1941). In 1947 she played Natalie Wood's mother in Miracle on 34th Street. She is often remembered for her on screen chemistry with John Wayne. The two worked together on five films Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, The Wings of Eagles, McLintock! and Big Jake. Some of her other roles include mother Maggie McKendrick in The Parent Trap, Olivia Spencer in Spencer's Mountain and Peggy Hobbs in Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. O'Hara has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2004, she released her autobiography 'Tis Herself, which became a New York Times Bestseller. In 2005 she was named "Irish American of the Year" by Irish America magazine and was inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame in 2011. Corners rounded. Slightly toned. Rounded throughout.
