HARRY "LITTLE" MINOR
The British boxer, shown in bare fisted fighting stance (3¼x5½),
gives his weight in stones.
Photograph signed: "Little Minor/Leeds/8 st. 6 lbs." He also
pens his manager's contact information, Tom Mallenson, on the verso:
"Manager/Tom Mallenson/42 Londefract Lane/Leeds/14-3-3/Tel 24043 Leeds".
Sepia, 3¼x5½. Photographer's stamp on verso dates 27 June 1937.
English boxer Harry "Little" Minor won 15 fights (6 by knockout) and
lost 8 (2 by knockout), with four of his fights ending in a draw. Minor was
known as a scrappy fighter, not afraid to take chances in the ring. Though the
caption here bills him as a featherweight, his later fights were at the
welterweight class. The "stone" was often used as a measurement of weight in the
British Isles into the 20th century, with one stone equaling 14 pounds or 6.35
kilograms. So Minor's weight as he has written it here would equal 57 kilos
or 125 pounds. Corners slightly creased. Photographer's stamp on verso.
Otherwise, fine condition.
