THE LITTLE HUT PLAY CAST: SUSAN SHAW and GEOFFREY TOONE
Show bill for the 1950 Lyric Theatre Production of The Little Hut, signed by Shaw and cast member Toone
Show bill signed: "Best Wishes/Susan Shaw" on the coverand "Geoffrey Toone" on the cast page, 6p, 5¼x8. Show Bill for H.M. Tennent's production of The Little Hut, ("A Light Comedy") by Andre Roussin at the Lyric Theatre, London beginning 23 August 1950. This play tells the story of three people stranded on a desert island--a businessman who is too busy to pay attention to his wife and the couple's best friend, who harbors a secret longing for the wife. Toonewas billed on the cast page as "A Stranger"; Shaw is not among the cast credits. GEOFFREY TOONE (1910-2005) is an Irish actor best known for his supporting roles in over 80 movies and TV series. He got his start in London's Old Vic theatre in the 1930s and worked alongside John Gielgud and Lawrence Olivier in Romeo and Juliet (1935). He also appeared in a 1948 production of Macbeth on Broadway. His good looks made him a favorite among pre-war audiences, and he aged into a distinguished-looking actor, often playing authority figures in movies and TV shows including The Avengers. Science fiction fans may also know him as Hepesh from the Doctor Who episode The Curse of Peladon (1972). SUSAN SHAW (1929-1978) was an English actress. She was groomed by the English film production company the Rank Organisation to be an actress. After a marriage to actor Albert Lieven, she married American actor Bonar Colleano, who played wisecracking Yanks in British films. His sudden death in a 1958 car accident devastated Shaw and led to a drinking problem that she fought for the rest of her life. Her son by Colleano, Mark Colleano, went on to star opposite Rock Hudson in Hornet's Nest. Lightly creased and soiled. Overall, fine condition.
