Stage, screen and television actor ADOLPHE MENJOU (1890-1963) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Front Page (1930-1931 Academy).Known for his waxed black mustache and stylish wardrobe, he usually appeared as a dapper man-of-the world in more than 100 films, including A Woman of Paris (1923),Morocco (1930), Little Miss Marker (1934), Stage Door (1937), A Star is Born (1937) and Paths of Glory (1957). His other films include A Farewell to Arms (1932) and Pollyanna(1960), and Menjou also hosted several TV series, including My Favorite Story (1953-1954) and Target. His 1948 autobiography was appropriately titled, It Took Nine Tailors. CHARLES BICKFORD (1891-1967) debuted on Broadway in 1919 and in movies in 1929. In 1930 he played Greta Garbo's lover in Anna Christie. His inability to get along with directors, and his mauling by a lion on the set of East of Java (1935) diminished his chances for leading man stardom, but it he remained highly successful in character roles, nominated three times for the Best Supporting Actor (The Song of Bernadette, 1943; The Farmer's Daughter, 1947; and Johnny Belinda (1948). He was a familiar face on TV from the 1950s, playing a recurring role on The Virginian until shortly before his death. Large tear to upper right, taped on verso. Paper fragments on bottom margin. Corners worn and creased. Slightly soiled. Light surface creases. Faint stains. Otherwise, fine condition.
