Mayhew Wainwright, in full: "I wish it were possible for me to accept at once your very attractive invitation for April 26th. I am afraid it is entirely out of the question for me, since I have one of the most important meetings of our Cornell Board of Trustees on that day and one which will require my full attention for some time preceding. Mrs. Farrand has told me, of course, of her pleasure in meeting you in Bethlehem last year and we would both enjoy the opportunity of seeing you in your home. Your husband knows very well of my admiration of the work he has been carrying on for many years and I wish our paths might cross more often. With kindest regards to him and regretting that I cannot come to you in the spring I am Very sincerely yours". Livingston Farrand (1867-1939) served as President of Cornell University from 1921 to 1937.
