Rare b/w publicity photo of actor Lloyd Bridges as a commodore in the Coast Guard Auxiliary advertising the importance of life jackets to boaters. Signed twice by Bridges in blue ink.
Inscribed photograph signed "Happy days, Ralph!/Lloyd Bridges" on front and "Lloyd Bridges" on verso, both in blue ink. Pencil notations in unknown hand, blue ink date stamp and Post-It Note on verso. B/w, 8x10 overall, 7½x7¾ image, one surface. Note on verso: "Dear Ralph, I'm sorry not to be able to send you a pic but I'm here in N.Y.C. away from home." Captioned at bottom. After stage experience in stock, Bridges (1913-1998)made his Broadway debut in the late 30s in a modern dress version of Othello. In 1941, he was signed by Columbia and during the next four years appeared in some 25 low-budget films. Tall, blonde, and rugged, he was used frequently in westerns and action pictures, sometimes as a heavy. After he left Columbia and began free-lancing in 1945, his roles and films improved and included many lead parts in B pictures and important parts in A pictures. He starred in the TV series Sea Hunt(1958-1961). His films include Here Comes Mr. Jordan(1941), Talk of the Town(1942), Sahara(1943), A Walk in the Sun(1945), The Rainmaker(1956), The Happy Ending(1941), Airplane (1980) and Airplane II(1982). He is the father of actors Beau and Jeff Bridges. Bridges was nominated for two Emmy Awards for a performance in a 1956 episode of The Alcoa Hour and in 1998 as a guest star on Sienfeld.
