LLOYD M. BUCHER. Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Bill Nelson/Best wishes/L.M. Bucher/CDR, USN". B/w, 5x7½. On January 23, 1968, the USS Pueblo, a Navy intelligence vessel engaged in a routine surveillance of the North Korean coast, was captured by North Korean patrol boats. The Commanding Officer of the USS Pueblo, Commander Lloyd M. Bucher, and 82 of his crew were held for 11 months. On December 23, 1968, U.S. and North Korean negotiators reached a settlement and Bucher and his crew, but not the Pueblo, were released. He died on January 28, 2004. Fine condition.
