LOIS WILSON
The silent film star sends a note to a fan on an album leaf
Autograph note signed: "To Henrietta/Very sincerely/Lois
Wilson", 6x4½ album leaf. Lois Wilson (1894-1988) was a film star of
the silent era. Her screen debut coincided with Boris Karloff's (Dumb Girls
of Porticis, 1916). Her first starring role was in What Every Woman
Knows (1921). She made many Westerns, including The Covered Wagon
(1923). While on western locations, she became a lifelong advocate for the
interests of Native Americans and used her skills as an amateur photographer to
film the last cattle drive in the US (1924). She portrayed Daisy Buchanan in
the first screen version of The Great Gatsby (1926). Very choosey
about her roles, Wilson appeared less on screen less often in the era of sound.
She did play Shirley Temple's mother in Bright Eyes (1934) and
made her last feature film in the Ronald Reagan vehicle The Girl from Jones
Beach (1947). She continued stage acting, and appeared in TV soap operas of
the 1950s (The Guiding Light, The Edge of Night). Small binder
holes at left edge. Fine condition.
