LON CHANEY, JR. Document signed: "Lon Chaney", 1p, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1959 May 15. Chaney informs an unnamed party that he has authorized the Lester Salkow Agency to accept checks and sums of money on his behalf. He agrees to indemnify for any loss resulting from this authorization. Chaney was forbidden to act by his actor father, Lon Chaney, Sr., until the latter's death in 1930. The son, born Creighton Chaney, then changed his name and imitated his father's penchant for playing scary characters. Best remembered as The Wolfman (1941) and other monsters, the younger Chaney (1906-1973) probably gave his best performance as Lennie in stage and film versions of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men (1939). Date stamp and ink note (unknown hand) in bottom left. Three lines of text underlined in red (unknown hand). Lightly creased. Binder holes at top, with paper separations from holes to top edge of paper.
