Loose Cannons is a buddy cop comedy with some quirky twists. Gene Hackman (1930-2025) is a prolific stage and screen actor who earned his screen debut in an episode of Tallahassee 7000 in 1961. After winning Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and I Never Sang For My Father (1973), Hackman won the Best Actor Award for his role as narcotics agent Popeye Doyle in The French Connection (1971). A Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for the Western Unforgiven (1993), Hackman earned critical acclaim in such films as Mississippi Burning (1989) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Although it did not win any major film awards, Hoosiers (1986), in which he portrayed a high school basketball coach, is considered one of the best sports films of all time. In total, Hackman has won two Oscars (five nominations), four Golden Globes (nine nominations), and two BAFTAs (five nominations).  Since his last screen role in 2004, Hackman has firmly retired from the industry, instead choosing to write and publish novels. One of the most vibrant comic personalities of the 1970s and 1980s as well as a noted actor and screenwriter, Dan Aykroyd (b. 1952) gained fame in 1975 in the original ensemble cast of TV's Saturday Night Live His film work includes The Blues Brothers (1980), Trading Places (1983), Ghostbusters (1984), Driving Miss Daisy (1989 - Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor).
