W. 7 [London], 1924 June 3. On personal letterhead. English lawyer, judge and politician Charles Darling (1849-1936) was a Conservative Member of Parliament (1888-1897) and a Judge of the Queen's Bench Division (1897-1923). Darling, who presided in several important libel and murder trials, including that of the notorious Dr. Crippen, rode to court daily on a horse, nattily dressed and accompanied by a liveried groom. He was made Baron Darling in 1924. Here he accepts a dinner invitation from Viscount Cowdray, formerly Weetman Pearson (1856-1927) an industrialist and Liberal politician. Toned. Irregularly cut edges. Mailing fold through center. Otherwise, fine condition.
