LORENZO FULLER
The musician and television star is shown in a B/w photograph wearing a plaid suit and bow tie.
Photograph signed: "Lorenzo Fuller", B/w 10x8. Lorenzo Fuller (b. 1919) began his musical career at a young age. By the age of 15 he was accepted as a sponsored student at the University of Kansas where he was trained in opera and other classical music form. He performed for KFKU radio monthly and was the first African American man to sing with the KU symphony. He moved to New York in 1945 where he studied voice at Julliard. His ability to play several instruments and sing in multiple languages had him in immediate demand in show business. He soon began coaching stars and had producers and writers sending their talent to him for preparation for shows. His rendition of the song Too Darn Hot during the Broadway production of Kiss Me, Kate became a popular single. He was the first African American host of a national television show, a variety program called Man About Music on NBC. In 1947 he became the first African American man to star opposite a white woman on WPIX-NBC's program Van and Genie. He continued his work with NBC, serving as the networks musical director until 1952. With his resume affixed to verso. Fine condition.
