Lotte Lehmann sends an unsigned autograph note on a preprinted
Christmas card in German.
Christmas Card Unsigned, 5x3½ card. In German translated in
full: "With very kind greetings for you and Malvina." Preprinted
above autograph message: "May the Peaceful Spirit/of Christmas/be with you
throughout the Year/Lotte Lehmann". German soprano Lotte Lehmann (1888-1976)
one of the most eminent lyric dramatic sopranos of her day made her
Metropolitan Opera debut on January 11, 1934 as Sieglinde in Die
Walküre. A month later, Lehmann performed on Arturo Toscanini's first
radio broadcast (The Cadillac Hour, February 11, 1934). She was
renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Wagner and the songs of Schumann.
Lotte Lehmann would retire from the recital stage in 1951. She
would then teach master classes at the Music Academy of the West (which she
helped found) in Santa Barbara, California, and Lehmann would also give
master classes in a number of other cities in the U.S. and abroad. Jagged at
