To: "Dearest Ernô-" In full: "Thank you, I think your words about me are quite wonderful. I shall give the article to Herrn Wessling who comes the day after tomorrow 'for Sea'. I'm coming back to U. S. A. on the 9th of July staying at the Gashaur! Of course I am with Frances! I shall be so till the end of my life! She is the most wonderful and understanding friend anybody could wish to have. Included hand addressed mailing envelope 9x4¼: "U. S. A./Professor Ernô Balogh/3040 Idaho Avenue/Washington 16, D. C." and on verso "Lotte Lehmann" Lightly worn at edges. Stamp and postmark missing. Otherwise, fine condition. German soprano Lotte Lehmann (1888-1976) one of the most eminent lyric dramatic sopranos of her day made her Metropolitan Opera debut on January 11, 1934 as Sieglinde in Die Walküre. A month later, Lehmann performed on Arturo Toscanini's first radio broadcast (The Cadillac Hour, February 11, 1934). She was renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Wagner and the songs of Schumann. Lotte Lehmann would retire from the recital stage in 1951. She would then teach master classes at the Music Academy of the West (which she helped found) in Santa Barbara, California, and Lehmann would also give master classes in a number of other cities in the U.S. and abroad.
