Autograph Note Unsigned, 6x4¾ card. No place, no date. In full: "wish much love." Preprinted above autograph message: "Merry Christmas/and Best Wishes for a very Happy New Year/Lotte Lehmann". She has crossed out her last name. Lightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition. Includes hand addressed mailing envelope, 6¼x5: "Mr. and Mrs./Ernô Balogh/3040 Idaho Av./Washington 16, D.C." Postmarked Santa Barbara, California, 1960 November 30. Five cent stamp at upper right. Lightly soiled touching first line of address. Lightly jagged at upper margin from being opened. Otherwise, fine condition. German soprano Lotte Lehmann (1888-1976) one of the most eminent lyric dramatic sopranos of her day made her Metropolitan Opera debut on January 11, 1934 as Sieglinde in Die Walküre. A month later, Lehmann performed on Arturo Toscanini's first radio broadcast (The Cadillac Hour, February 11, 1934). She was renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Wagner and the songs of Schumann. Lotte Lehmann would retire from the recital stage in 1951. She would then teach master classes at the Music Academy of the West (which she helped found) in Santa Barbara, California, and Lehmann would also give master classes in a number of other cities in the U.S. and abroad.
