birthday. I am not too well at the moment, and rather plagued by arthritis. Yet
I think I will like every year, go to Europe; perhaps the treatment in Gastein
will help me. I hope to see you in New York and am with much love to you and
Malvina. Your old friend" German soprano Lotte Lehmann (1888-1976) one of
the most eminent lyric dramatic sopranos of her day made her
Metropolitan Opera debut on January 11, 1934 as Sieglinde in Die
Walküre. A month later, Lehmann performed on Arturo Toscanini's first
radio broadcast (The Cadillac Hour, February 11, 1934). She was
renowned for her interpretations of Mozart, Wagner and the songs of Schumann.
Lotte Lehmann would retire from the recital stage in 1951. She
would then teach master classes at the Music Academy of the West (which she
helped found) in Santa Barbara, California, and Lehmann would also give
master classes in a number of other cities in the U.S. and abroad. Fold creases
not near signature. Fine condition.
