LOU SAVARESE
Shown in the ring against George Foreman, his first losing fight after 36
consecutive wins.
Photograph signed: "Lou Savarese". Color, 10x8. Shown boxing George
Foreman in Atlantic City (April 26, 1997). Lou Savarese (b. 1965) won his
first 36 professional fights, 30 by knockout. But many of these fights had been
against little known opponents, and even his victory over Buster Mathis, Jr. for
the vacant USBA Heavyweight title (January 1997) hadn't earned him much respect
from the sportswriters. That changed in the bout with George Foreman, shown
here. Although Savarese lost for the first time, he went the distant for a very
close split decision. Savarese held the IBA Heavyweight title intermittently
between 1978 and 1984, but had less success against the top-flight opponents
(including Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield) his performances had now earned. He
retired after losing a unanimous decision to Holyfield in 2007, with a career
record of 46-7. Fine condition.
