He pens this letter regarding the Museum of the City of New York
Autograph Letter Signed: "Louis Auchincloss", 2p, 5½x8½, front and verso. No place, no date. On his personal letterhead to "Dear Mr. Allen". In full: "Here is my wife and myself at the Museum of the City of N.Y. (of which I am President) on the occasion of the '$24' Award that we give annually to a citizen of NYC who has done something for the old town. The dollars are supposed to be the price the Indians paid for Manhattan! As to your question its answer is contained in my memoirs 'A Writer's Capital' published by Houghton Mifflin in paper back. Sincerely." Photograph not present. Louis Auchincloss (1917-2010) wrote fiction while remaining an active lawyer specializing in estates and trusts. As such, he is well qualified to write about lives of well-to-do, well-connected WASP New Yorkers, the subjects of much of his fiction. His recent works include short stories (Manhattan Monologues, 2002) and novels (The Scarlet Letters, 2003). He has also written several biographies on subjects including Edith Wharton, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Fine condition.
