Original Portrait signed: "L. Blériot", 4¾x6½. Initialed by the artist: "EM". French pilot and aircraft designer Louis Blériot (1872-1936) made the first cross-English Channel heavier-than-air flight in his No XI monoplane on July 25, 1909, flying from Calais to Dover. He was one of the pioneers of the standard-control layout - still used today - which he patented in 1908. In 1909 he flew the first successful monoplane. The initials of his French aircraft company became the name of a famous line of World War I fighters: SPAD. Lightly soiled. Mounting remnants on verso (no show-through). Fine condition.
