Autograph Note signed signed: "Best wishes/to Mabelle/Louis Calhern", in pencil. 5½x4½ album leaf. Calhern (1895-1956) was born Carl Henry Vogt in Brooklyn, New York. He began his career as a prop boy and bit player with burlesque and touring companies just prior to WWI - he served overseas. His film career began with What's Worth While? (1921) and ended with High Society (1956). Calhern's biggest success came in 1950 with three films; Annie Get Your Gun, The Asphalt Jungle and The Magnificent Yankee - for which he received an Oscar nomination for his role as Oliver Wendell Holmes. He played starring roles on stage as King Lear (1950), the grandfather in The Red Pony (1949), the spy boss in Notorious (1946) and Uncle Willie in High Society (1956). Left edge ragged from removal from album. Lightly soiled and toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
