Sheaffer (1913-1993), born Louis Slung, won the 1974 Pulitzer Prize in
Biography for O'Neill, Son and Artist (1973). the second volume in
his two-volume biography of playwright Eugene O'Neill. The first volume,
O'Neill, Son and Playwright, had been published in 1968. The combined
works took Sheaffer a total of sixteen years to complete. Lightly creased with
folds, not at signature. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through).
