Signature: "Louise Brough", 4½x3¼ fragment of postal card. Ink captions (unknown hand) at top and bottom edges. Partial ink address on verso (unknown hand), postmarked Beverly Hills, California, September 4, 1948. Althea Louise Brough (Clapp), (1923-2014), won women's singles championships at three of the four Grand Slam events (Australian, US and Wimbledon, the latter four times. Also competing in doubles and mixed doubles events, she notched a total of 35 Grand Slam events, adding the French Championship to her trophy shelf with doubles play. She retired from tournament play in 1958, but was an influential tennis teacher for 20 more years. She and her frequent women's doubles partner, Margaret Osborne DuPont, both entered the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1967. Mounting tabs in three of four corners. Heavily toned at right edge.
