Louise Closser Hale (1872-1933) made her Broadway debut in Shaw's Candida (1903), initially billed by her maiden name, Louise Closser. Her acting range extended from Cole Porter musicals (Paris, 1928) to classical drama (Aristophanes' Lysistrata, 1930). She appeared in many films, and had just finished filming Dinner at Eight when - while shopping in Hollywood - she suffered a fatal stroke. She was also a novelist (Home Talent, An American's London) and a play, Mother's Millions. She was married to actor and author Walter Hale, with whom she collaborated on travel books. Toned and worn. Heavy mounting residue on verso. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
