restaurateur
Photograph inscribed and signed: To Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Peppino/with the

(1878-1965) played strong character leads and supporting parts in silents and
early talkies. Her memorable roles include the title character in The
Goose Woman (1925), Catherine the Great (opposite Valentino) in The
Eagle (1925) and Al Jolson's loving mother in Mammy (1930). She also
costarred with Will Rogers in four films. Dresser, nominated for the first
Academy Award for Best Actress in 1927-1928 (A Ship Comes In), was
presented with a citation of merit at the first ceremonies. Having made her last
movie in 1937, Dresser was enjoying a retirement filled with gardening and
charitable work when she inscribed this photo to restaurant owner Joseph
"Peppino" Micoli of Beverly Hills. Lightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine
condition.
