LOUISE KARTOUSCH
A rare signature from the Austrian operetta singer and actress to
"dear Miss Enke", extending best wishes and greetings
Inscribed photograph mount signed (translated): "For dear Miss
Enke/with best wishes and/greetings/Louise Kartousch 1926", in blue ink,
8¼x11. Affixed is a sepia toned photograph of Kartousch in a fur coat. Louise
Kartousch (1886-1964) was a character actor and operetta singer hailing from
Austria. First beginning an acting career as a child, Kartousch rose to
prominence during what was called the Silver Era of Viennese Opera, landing
leading roles in Dollarprinzessin, Rose von Stambul, and
Graf von Luxemburg. Kartousch also made a number of film appearances,
with most of her roles occurring in the 1930's, including The Happiest
Married Couple in Vienna (1937) and Die Pompadour (1935). Mount
bowed. Corners worn and creased, esp. heavy on bottom corners. Toned. Pencil
notes (unknown hand). Small tear on top margin. Mount creased on right and left
edge of photograph. Lightly soiled, esp. on top right corner. Edges lightly
worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
