LOUISE KIRBY-LUNN
Signed b/w British picture post card of mezzo-soprano Louis Kirby-Lunn,
printed with 4 measures of music and lyrics from Life's
Recompense
Picture post card signed "Kirby Lunn". B/w, 3½x5½. Blank on verso.
British Rotary Photographic Plate Sunk Gum Series postcard. Captioned:
"Madame Kirby Lunn.". Printed with 4 measures of music and lyrics
from Life's Recompense under Lunn's photo. Kirby-Lunn (1873-1930)
was a British mezzo-soprano and one of the leading British singers between
1900 and 1920. Interestingly, Kirby-Lunn, who made her debut during the
first season of the Promenade Concerts in 1895, had thought of retiring after
her marriage in 1899, before she came to real prominence. But she persevered,
and it paid off. She appeared regularly at Covent Garden between 1901 and 1914
and at the Metropolitan Opera between 1902 and 1908, and sung in numerous
oratorios and operas. Kirby-Lunn was especially famous for her
interpretations of Richard Wagner's opera. Lightly toned, scuffed, creased
and bowed. Signature has beaded but is legible. Lightly worn at corners.
Otherwise in fine condition.
