LOUISE SUGGS and CINDY MACKEY
This remarkable typescript is signed by both golfers to hold the LPGA record for widest margin of victory, signed in black ink
Typescript Signed: "Louise Suggs" and "Cindy Mackey" in black ink. One page. 8½x10¾. Titled: "* All-Time LPGA Tour Records */* Wins - Widest Winning Margin, Strokes *". Both Suggs and Mackey hold the record, as of this biography, for the widest margin of victory by strokes on the LPGA tour -14 strokes. Suggs established the record in 1949 at the U. S. Women's Open. It took almost 40 years to tie this record, when Mackey won the 1986 Mastercard International Pro-Am. After winning many women's amateur golf tourneys, LOUISE SUGGS (1923-2015), born Mae Louise, turned pro in 1948 and went on to win 55 events, including 11 majors. Bob Hope reportedly gave her the nickname "Miss Sluggs" after seeing her long drives. She was a co-founder of the LPGA in 1950, serving as its President from 1955 to 1957. Suggs was an inaugural inductee to the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1967. The LPGA rookie of the year award is named for her. Bob Hope reportedly gave her the nickname "Miss Sluggs" after seeing her long drives. CINDY MACKEY (b.1961), has only one win on the LPGA tour. But it's possibly one of the most remarkable in tour history: the 1986 Mastercard International Pro-Am, when she tied LPGA co-founder Louise Suggs for widest margin of victory at 14 strokes. As of this biography, Mackey and Suggs are the only two golfers to share this record. Lightly toned and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
