LOWELL P. WEICKER, JR.
The Connecticut senator sends letter of thanks on official U.S. Senate letterhead, signs his name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "L.P. Weicker Jr." in black ink. 1 page, 8x10½. Written on personal U.S. Senate stationary. August 8, 1972. Washington, D.C. In full: "Dear Mr. Minor: Many thanks for your very kind letter of July 27th. I too have enjoyed our association, and I appreciate the help you have given me over the past several years. If at any time I am planning a trip to Cincinnati, you may be assured that I will be in touch. With warmest regards, Sincerely". Lowell Palmer Weicker, Jr. (1931-2023) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative and Senator from Connecticut, as well as the state's 85th Governor (1991-1995). He is best remembered for his unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination for President in 1980, as well as for his involvement as one of the seven members of the Senate Watergate Committee whose investigations led to the resignation of President Nixon. Although a member of the Republican Party while in Congress, he later left and became one of the few independents to be elected as a state governor of the U.S. Interestingly, Weicker also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. prior to stepping down in 2011. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
