Dee" and "Joel McCrea", 6x4¼ album leaf. In 1935,
LOWELL THOMAS became the voice of Fox Movietone News, the newsreel service
widely distributed throughout movie houses in the United States. He narrated the
newsreels for the next 17 years (1935-1952) and was heard weekly by an
audience of almost 100 million people. Thomas also narrated This is
Cinerama (1952), the first movie made in the Cinerama process, and wrote the
screenplays for a number of 1975 Lowell Thomas Remembers documentaries
that spanned the years 1930 to the early 1960s. He was also the author of
over 50 books on travel, comment and adventure, including 1924's With
Lawrence of Arabia. JOEL McCREA (1905-1990), who was a movie stunt
double while still in high school and appearing at the Pasadena Playhouse while
at USC, made his film debut in 1927 and had his breakthrough role, in Jazz
Age, two years later. In 1946, after making The Virginian, McCrea
concentrated on Westerns. In addition to his long list of film credits,
McCrea starred on the early 1950s radio show, Tales of the Texas Rangers,
and the 1959 TV series, Wichita Town. Actress FRANCES DEE
(1909-2004) made her film debut in 1929. Her credits include Little Women
(1933), Of Human Bondage (1934) and Gypsy Colt (1954, her last
film). McRae and Dee, who met while filming The Silver Cord (1933),
were married for 57 years -- from October 20, 1933 until his death on
October 20, 1990. They were the parents of three sons, including actor Jody
