DICK SCOBEE
Dick Scobee signs a philatelic envelope.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "Dick Scobee", 6½x3½. Space Cover with two stamps affixed, postmarked Cape Canaveral, Florida, November 14, 1981. Francis Richard Scobee (1939-1986) was pilot of Space Shuttle 41-C mission (1984) that successfully deployed the Long Duration Exposure Facility, retrieved the ailing Solar Maximum Satellite and repaired it on-board the orbiting Challenger before replacing it in orbit using the robot arm called the Remote Manipulator System. His next flight was aboard the Space Shuttle 51-L mission, the ill-fated flight of the Challenger, which exploded 73 seconds after launch on January 28, 1986, killing Scobee and his six colleagues. Fine condition.
