White has filled in answers to typed questions, writing "Pilot" next to "Profession" and "1952" as "Year started". On verso, White has written "Selection as an U.S. astronaut" as his greatest honor. Edward H. White II (1930-1967), a pilot for the U.S. Air Force, was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1962. As Pilot of Gemini 4 (June 3-7, 1965), White became the first American to walk in space. Later named to the crew of Apollo I, White, along with veteran astronaut Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom and rookie Roger Chaffee, was killed in a flash fire on January 26, 1967. Fine condition.
