GUY WILSON
Signed Autograph Letter (1934), ordering an updated history of the East Yorkshire Regiment, in which which he had served during the Boer War.
Autograph Letter signed: "Guy Wilson", 1 page, 5¼x6¾. Arkengarthdale, Richmond, Yorkshire, 1934 August 8. On personal letterhead to "My dear Tommy". In full: "I am v. interested & pleased to hear that the history of the Regiment subsequent to 1909 has been written by Roger Lunsley and I shall look forward with interest to reading it. I think you are right in not producing a cheaper edition. I enclose my subscription and only wish it could be more. Yours ever". Guy Greville Wilson (DSO, CMG), was the second son of parliamentarian and steamship magnate Charles Henry Wellesley Wilson (made Baron Dunburnholme in 1906). He served with distinction in the East Yorkshire Regiment during the Boer War (1900-1902), attaining the rank of colonel. He served as a Liberal Member of Parliament (1907-1918), defeated in the 1918 election which witnessed the collapse of the Liberal Party. The East Yorkshire Regiment formed in 1685, participated in many of Britain's greatest battles, including The Plains of Abraham (above Quebec, 1759), Waterloo (1815), and in both World Wars. It was merged to become The Prince of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment in 1958. Horizontal and vertical fold creases, not affecting signature. Top edge trimmed unevenly. Paper and adhesive residue (previous mounting) on verso, no show-through. Otherwise, fine condition.
