LT. COLONEL OLIVER L. NORTH
Signing on letterhead of the Freedom Alliance, which he urges this autograph-seeker to join.
Typed letter signed: "Oliver", in blue ink, 1 page, 8½x11. September 28, 1998. Jamesville, Wisconsin. Freedom Alliance. In part: "Dear Vickie: Thank you for taking the time to write. Enclosed please find the autographed photo which you requested [item not included]. Over the year I have been blessed with the support of thousands of patriotic Americans such as yourself and I hope you will accept this as a token of my appreciation". In December 1986, President Reagan confirmed reports that the U.S. had secretly sold arms to Iran and that some of the arms profits had been diverted to aid the Nicaraguan "contra" rebels at a time when Congress had prohibited such aid. In May 1989, Marine Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, Jr. (b. 1943) of the National Security Council (NSC) staff was convicted on three of the 12 criminal counts for his participation in Iran-Contra. In July, the court fined North $150,000 and gave him a three-year suspended sentence. North has remained active since as a conservative talk show host, syndicated columnist and (unsuccessful) candidate for the U.S. Senate. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
