Typed letter signed: “Bob Goebel” in black felt. 1 page, 8½x11. August, 19, 2010, typed on personal letterhead. In full: “Dear William, I am no longer well enough to do a lot of writing. However, I have enclosed a story that I had written several years ago and was translated and published in the German Fighter Pilots Assn 'jaeger Blatt' I hope that satisfies your request. God Bless”. Captain Robert J. Goebel (1923-2011) was a World War II flying ace. He flew as part of the 15th Air Force, 31st Group, 308th Squadron, had 11 P-51 Air Victories between May 29 and August 24, 1944 during WWII. He had 40 missions and 3 kills to his credit. Goebel was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross with one cluster and Air Medal with 17 clusters. Corners rounded and creased. 6 page typed story entitled “A Friend Never Met” included. Lightly creased throughout. ink note (unknown hand) near top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
