JOHN MICHAEL MORAN
The British naval officer who was held prisoner at Colditz Castle in Germany for five
years penned his signature and this letter in blue ink
Autograph Letter Signed: “J. M. Moran/ Lieut. Cdr. (Ret'd)”. 6½x9. One page. Various
newspaper clippings included on a larger 6½x9½ sheet. Dated October 29, 1979. Sent from
21 Windsor Drive, Kent. In Part: “I found your letter & the various odds and ends you sent to
are extremely interesting. I will read them more leisurely when I am less busy. / Being deeply
involved with the local Sea Ladies unit, (Chairman & Hon. Treasurer) I seem to be always
raising money”. John Michael Moran joined the Royal Navy in 1934. He was captured by
the Germany Army in March of 1941, and after being interrogated and failed escape attempt,
he was held at Colditz Castle. Moran was a P.O.W. at Colditz until camp liberation in
1945. Worn along edges. Lightly toned. Light creasing. Otherwise, fine condition.
