DANIEL H. HILL. ALS: "D.H. Hill", 3p, 5x8. Cynthiana, Ky, 1867 September 12. To his brother-in-law, J.P. Irwin, concerning selling magazines subscriptions. In part: "The State Fair takes place at Louisville next week. If you have the portrait for October No. please get up a few copies (five) & send to me. It would be worth a thousand dollars to me to have it there...I am concerned to know whether you wish me to stay out longer. I have gotten 20 subscribers per day in Ky...." Confederate General Hill was at Antietam and Chickamauga and was with Johnston when he surrendered in 1865. Mrs. Daniel H. Hill, Mrs. J.P. Irwin and Mrs. Stonewall Jackson were sisters. Folds, shaded and lightly soiled at some folds touching some words of text but not signature. Lightly creased at folds. Overall, fine condition.
