Print of his left hand, signed with the explanation that he lost his thumb in World War II
Hand Print signed: "Gunther Rall/left thumb/lost on/12th May 44", 7½x10. German fighter pilot Günther Rall downed an astonishing 275 Allied aircraft during World War II, the third highest tally of any pilot. He flew mostly on the Eastern Front, but his ME-109 fighter was shot down by American P-47s on May 12, 1944. Recovering, ended the war as Wing Commander of the 300th Luftwaffe Fighter Group. Rall later became a NATO General and the first commander of the revived German Air Force. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition
