Lieutenant General Jonathon O. Seaman (1911-1986) graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1934, after which he spent his career as a U.S. Army officer and combat commander during both World War II and the Vietnam War. Born in Manila the son of a U.S. army officer, Seaman was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the 16th Field Artillery right after graduation before eventually serving as a White House military aide from 1935 to 1938. After a brief time working as a teacher aide at West Point in 1939, Seaman was given command of the 4th Field Artillery regiment which he led during WWII in both European and Pacific Theatres. During the Vietnam War, Seaman was named commander of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, the first combat division to be called up for service during the war in July 1965; in March 1966, Seaman was promoted to commander of the U.S. II Field Force, which consisted of a 100,000 man fighting force. In 1967, Seaman returned to the United States to command the First U.S. Army at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he was involved in investigating the 1968 My Lai Massacre cases, before retiring in 1971 after 37 years of active duty. Light surface creases. Corners rounded. Slightly toned and soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
