As Defense Minister, he signs a typed 1968 letter to the Minister of Police,
concerning the Border Patrol.
TLS: "MD" as Israeli Minister of Defense, 1 page, 6½x8.
Kiryah [name of military building], 1968 January 30. To the Minister
of Police. In Hebrew, regarding the Border Patrol. Translated, in
full: "Included herein copy of letter from member of Knesset Shlomo
Choen-Tzidon to me and the opinion of the head military council. Your attention
is drawn to the second paragraph of his opinion. With blessing". At lower
margin (in unknown hand): "To: Mr Ben-Shur/Your comments on second
paragraph of the opinion of head military council." Moshe Dayan
(1915-1981) founded the Haganah militia force in 1939. After serving in the
British Army during WWII, he fought in Israel's first war after independence in
1948, losing his left eye. As Israeli Chief of Staff (1953-1958), Dayan is
credited with the Israeli Army's success in Gaza and the Sinai in the 1956 Suez
War. As Minister of Defense (1967-1974), he planned and commanded the Six-Day
War (1967). He was Foreign Minister from 1977-1979. Folds touch signature.
