SIMON B. BUCKNER. Partly Printed DS: "S.B. Buckner" as Governor of Kentucky, 1p, 11x16. Frankfort, 1888 March 10. Appointment of Chas. F. Exum as Notary Public in Franklin County. Buckner was commissioned Brigadier General in the Confederate Army September 1861. He was forced to surrender Fort Donelson (Tennessee) to General Ulysses S. Grant, a personal friend in February 1862, and was sent to a Union prison. After being exchanged, he served in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana, being promoted to Lieutenant General in 1864. Buckner was Governor of Kentucky from 1887-1891. Gold seal at lower left. Lightly creased. Folds, not at signature. Fine condition.
