LUCETTE KORSOFF
Vintage sepia photograph (4¼x5½) of the coloratura soprano in
costume, signed in friendly memory
Photograph signed: "Lucette Korsoff", Sepia 4¼x5½. French
sentiment is mostly illegible except for "in friendly memory". Lucette
Korsoff (1876-1955), the daughter of Russian Baritone Bogomir
Korsoff, was a coloratura soprano who performed primarily in the early 20th
century. She made her major debut in 1901 at the Opera Theatre of Toulouse, and
performed across France and Belgium for several years. Her best praised roles
were Konigin in The Magic Flute and in the title role of
Amadis. Korsoff also toured outside of Europe, appearing in
several opera houses across the U.S. until her retirement in 1922. She mostly
shied away from music after her retirement, though she did take on some students
as a pedagogue. Corners clipped. Image slightly faded in some areas. Edges
irregular. Light surface creases. Some ink faint, but clearly legible. Pencil
notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
