Printed Card signed in ink: "Lucy Larcom/Boston/April, 1883",
4½x3 card. Because the death of her father left the family in dire straits,
Lucy Larcom (1824-1893) worked in the cotton mills of Lowell,
Massachusetts from ages 11 to 21. While working long hours in the mill,
Larcom wrote poems about her experiences. She gained a national reputation,
with poems published in the leading American magazines. She also edited
one journal, Our Young Folks (1866-1873). Her autobiographical A
New England Girlhood (1883) remains in print. Creased and toned. Light
adhesive residue on verso. Pencil note (unknown hand) in top margin. Otherwise,
fine condition.
