LUCY LARCOM
Her signature given in Boston, on a card picturing a lighthouse
Printed Card signed in ink: "Lucy Larcom/Boston/April, 1883", 4½x3 card. Because the death of her father left the family in dire straits, Lucy Larcom (1824-1893) worked in the cotton mills of Lowell, Massachusetts from ages 11 to 21. While working long hours in the mill, Larcom wrote poems about her experiences. She gained a national reputation, with poems published in the leading American magazines. She also edited one journal, Our Young Folks (1866-1873). Her autobiographical A New England Girlhood (1883) remains in print. Creased and toned. Light adhesive residue on verso. Pencil note (unknown hand) in top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
