Show Bill for a production of Lydie Breeze at the American Place Theatre (New York). This Off-Broadway production ran from February 25 to March 21, 1982. French director LOUIS MALLE (1932-1995) was better known for his work in films. His French-language films include The Lovers (1958), vindicated in an obscenity trial that reached the US Supreme Court; and Au Revoir Les Enfants (1987), about a French parochial school trying to shelter Jewish students from the German occupiers. His films in English include Pretty Baby (1978), Atlantic City (1981) and Damage (1992). He also produced noteworthy documentary films, and was three times nominated for an Oscar. Malle was married to actress Candice Bergen from 1980 until his death. Multi-Tony, -Obie, and Drama Desk award winning American playwright JOHN GUARE (b. 1938), known for his wryly humorous cliché-busting works, is a member of the Theatre Hall of Fame and recipient of PEN's award as a Master American Dramatist. His best known plays include The House of Blue Leaves (1971), Landscape of the Body (1977) and Six Degrees of Separation (1990). Lydie Breeze is part of his play cycle exploring 19th century American life. He also wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Malle's Atlantic City. JAMES CAHILL (b. 1940) is an American stage actor with a career ranging from 1957-1992. He made his debut in the 1957 original production of Measure for Measure. During that same year, Cahill appeared in a comedic revival of The Taming of the Shrew. Over the next thirty-five years, he appeared in eight more productions including Narrow Road to the Deep North (1967), The Man Who Came to Dinner (1980), The Marriage of Figaro (1985), and City of Angels (1989-1992), which is his last known onstage appearance. BEN CROSS (1947-2020) has appeared in an extensive array of films, plays and TV roles since first appearing in A Bridge Too Far (1977). In 1981 he portrayed Harold Abrahamsin the critically acclaimed film Chariots of Fire. Since that time he has appeared in such TV series as Dark Shadows(1991) and Hallmark's Icon (2005).His latest movie roles are in The Mechanik (2005) and Undisputed 2 (2006). Stage, screen and television actress CYNTHIA NIXON (b. 1966) is best known to today's audiences as red-haired, workaholic attorney Miranda Hobbs (for which she was nominated for four Golden Globes) on HBO's award-winning series, Sex and the City (1998-2004). Nixon made both her screen and Broadway debuts in 1980, appearing in the feature film, Little Darlings, and on stage in The Philadelphia Story, for which she won the 1981 Theatre World Award. She was later nominated for a Tony Award for Indiscretions (1995). Nixon has also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies and series, such as Murder, She Wrote, Nash Bridges, Early Edition and Touched by An Angel, and feature films including Tattoo (1981) and Amadeus (1984). Canadian actress ROBERTA MAXWELL (b. 1942) was the youngest apprentice actor ever at Ontario's Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Her Broadway roles have included The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1968) and Equus (1974). She has played supporting roles in noteworthy American films, including Philadelpha (1993) and Brokeback Mountain (2005). ROBERT JOY (b. 1951), also Canadian, may be best known as Chief Medical Examiner Sid Hammerback on CSI:NY. His film debut was on the Guare/Malle Atlantic City. He played Madonna's boyfriend in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). Joy is also known for appearances in cult horror movies, including Land of the Dead and The Hills Have Eyes. Lightly toned.
